Leads can be entered into MVP in three ways – adding a lead manually, through integration or importing a list of leads. To import a list, it has to be a CSV (Comma Separated Values) spreadsheet and you must have the first and last name and at least ONE contact method (full address, phone, or email).
Before you start
Have your list saved as a .csv file of 2 MB or less. Row 1 must hold a column name for every column, and no two columns can share a name. Each lead needs a name and at least one contact method (full address, phone, or email).
If you want a workflow to start for the imported leads, create the workflow first.
If you plan on texting these leads, add a “Text Consent” column that says which leads agreed to be texted. Enter TRUE, Y or YES for each lead who gave consent.
Steps
Open Imports in the left menu under Account Setup. You can also use the New button at the top right and choose Import Leads. The page has three tabs: Import Leads, Import Customers and Import History. Stay on Import Leads.
- Under CSV file, choose your .csv file.
- Pick the Name format that matches your file: Separate columns, First Last (Bob White), First, Last (Bob, White) or Last, First (White, Bob).
- Review the Column mapping table. A wand icon marks a column Agency MVP mapped for you; change it if it is wrong.
- Optional: under Additional members, vehicles, quotes & commercials, use Add another member, Add another vehicle, Add another quote or Add another commercial and map those columns too. For each added quote, pick a quote type: Home Quote, Vehicle Quote, Life Quote, Umbrella Quote or Specialty Quote. A quote with no type is not imported.
- Optional: choose a Referral source.
Optional: to start a workflow on the imported leads, click Verify text consent under Automation workflow. Read the Text Consent box and click Agree. The workflow list then opens. Choose a workflow, and make sure the Has Text Consent field is mapped, because a workflow is not used without it.
- Under Owners, tick at least one team member. If you select multiple users, the import will be distributed evenly amongst the selected users.
- Under Tags, search for a tag or create a new one. Tags are applied as marketing-source tags to every imported household. This is important to track your ROI.
- Click Start import.
What happens next
Import History lists each import with its Status, File Name, Total, Imported, Failed, Source, Marketing Source, Imported By and Date.
Source shows the referral source you chose, and Marketing Source shows the tags. Hover over the Imported number to see how many households were new and how many were updated.
The status is one of Pending (still running), Processed (no failed rows), Partially Processed (some rows failed) or Failed.
When an import has failed rows, click View errors under its status. The Import errors window lists each failed row as "Row #" with the reason. Row # is the line number in your file, so the first lead is Row #2. Fix those rows in your file and import them again.
Troubleshooting
If Start import is greyed out, map every required field marked with * and tick at least one owner.
If you see "File is too large (2 MB max).", split the file into smaller files and import each one.
If you see "Duplicate column name" or "The header row has a blank column name.", fix row 1 of your file so every column has a different name.
If the workflow list is greyed out after you agreed to the text consent, map the Has Text Consent field in the Column mapping table.
If a household you expected is missing, open Import History and check View errors for that import before you import the file again.
